CHINA Part 1

                   MY CHINA TOUR MAY 2012

I did a tour of China from 26 May to 10 June 2012.
VISA was obtained  from the VFS next to Meridian Hotel, near India Gate, Delhi. 
Tour being little long I will put it across in two parts.
                                 
                                                           PART - I
 
 
25 May Departure by China eastern Airline at 02.30 on 26 May.
Incident after Boarding. One person seemingly High on drinks entered economy section and stated that he has just booked a Car for her mother.He then stated that he has booked four seats to sleep. He was told to relax and sit down. He then stated he needs a tablet for head ache. The Flt Cabin attended him but he insisted on having Chavan Prash to be given to him. The chief cabin attendant came to sort things out but it didn't help.The Capt came and asked him to take the journey in peace but this passenger started shouting. The Security was called and the passenger was de-planed. We had to wait little longer till his luggage was off loaded. Thereafter we started on our journey.

26  May DAY1 Arrived at Shanghai by MU 564 at 11.00AM. The food on the plane was not to our liking and at best can be labeled as Bad. On arrival we were met by Mr Frank, our guide and transferred to hotel.The Taxi journey was good and lasted about one hour and twenty minutes.The traffic was OK on the roads.The roads were clean and smooth for the ride.Check in was easy. The Hotel was good.

We then went and bought local SIM card for communication.We also got in writing our food instructions in Chineese  language eg No Beef, No Chicken Head or Feet etc. In the Evening visited Lu Garden (it is not a Garden but shopping Area)and Bund.

27 May  DAY 2  We took a taxi to Sofitel Shanghai Hyland Hotel which was paid  by Tour Operator as he could not come to pick us up for our Tour. We took a small group tour to Suzhou & Zhouzhuang . We drove for about 2 hours to Suzhou first,and went to see the Humble Administrator Garden & Lion Rock Garden. Suzhou is a very popular trip even by locals as it contains many gardens.

Our Lunch was organised in a local restaurant. The 
chicken  preparation was good and with rice is was OK.We then visited the silk factory .

We then drove to Water Town Zhouzhuang in the afternoon. The drive was of about an hour.it's a very famous Water Village in China. We walked the narrow lanes with shops and also took a the Rowing Boat.The girl who took us on the rowing boat also sang a beautiful song as she did rowing for about half an hour. We then drove back to Shanghai, reaching at around 6pm

28  May DAY3  Shanghai to Yichang . Pudong  Airport  Air China  CA 1973  Departure at 16.20 Arrival at18.25 We were picked up from our   hotel about 12.30 pm and transfer to MEGLEV train Station.We then took the MEGLEV train to Aiport. This train runs at a speed of 330 km /hr and covers 30 km distance to the Airport in 8 mins.

 Our guide had reached with our baggae at the air port and we then flew to Yichang airport. we were here met by local guide.The local guide took us to a local restaurant for our dinner. 
There after we went to the bank of the river to Board on the cruise at about 18:00 for our memorable Yangtze River tour.

29  May DAY4 Yangtze River Cruise  Visited the progress at the historic Three Gorges Dam, the world’s largest hydroelectric project. We were taken around by an english Guide.

We then back to the cruise and continue cruising along the western Xiling Gorge.Thereafter we passed the Five Level Ship Lock.This is to cover the difference of water level of the Dam at two ends. Enjoy the Captain's Welcome Party presents Chinese folk dancing and music performance after dinner.

30 May  DAY 5 Today we Sail through Wu Gorge in the morning reach Bi Dong City. Take small motor boat and then Row Boat to visit the Shennong Stream.

One will also experience an exciting short pea-boat rowing by boatman. Back to the ship and view the scenery of the shortest Qutang Gorge. 


31 May  DAY 6 Enjoy the morning cruise and then at 10.30 disembark at Fengdu, the " Ghost City " for an excursion.

Then continue sailing to Chongqing . In the evening, join in the farewell party and enjoy your last night on board. 


01 Jun  DAY 7 Chongqing – Dazu.   Arrived in Chongqing in the morning. Disembarked after Break Fast at 08.30 hours.

Met our local guide. Then drove 116 kilometers  from Chongqing  to Dazu for the Buddhist cave sculptures and grotto art. Dazu Rock Carvings and statues are dating back to Tang and Song Dynasty, Dazu Rock Carvings and statues are purely Chinese style. The sculptures at  Baoding Mountain was constructed from 1179 to 1249.

Jodhpur International Folk Festival 2012

RAJASTHAN INTERNATIONAL FOLK FESTIVAL  JODHPUR 2012

Jodhpur U can see these places; 
Mehrangarh Fort. This fort is one of the largest fort in India. The fort is situated at an altitude of about 400 ft and is spread over an area of 5 sq km, with seven gates.
Umaid Bhawan Palace. This immense palace known as Chittar Palace because of the local chittar sandstone used.The palace now runs as a hotel, though, a part of it has been retained as a museum and part as royal residence. 
Jaswant Thada. Close to the fort complex lies white marble cenotaph, built in 1899 .
Mandore. Mandore is located at a distance of 9 km from Jodhpur City. The Cenotaph of Maharajah Dhiraj Ajit Singh, an attraction of this site is adorned with carved elephants.

FESTIVAL Details
Rajasthan International Folk Festival (RIFF), the only experimental folk music festival in the world providing platform to folk musicians of India and abroad.The Jodhpur RIFF has tied up with Celtic Connections, the largest folk music festival in the northern hemisphere.

Acknowledged as one of Australia’s finest didgeridoo players, Mark Atkins is also recognized internationally for his collaborative projects with some of the world’s leading composers and musicians. A descendant of Western Australia’s Yamitji people, as well as of Irish/Australian heritage, Mark Atkins is known not only for his masterly playing, but also as a storyteller, composer, percussionist, visual artist and instrument maker. Through Mark’s lips the air blows as a natural desert sound, in old ethnic chants and in polyphonic melodies of astonishing rhythm.




Cimarron is the most accomplished llanera (music from los Llanos) group in Colombia. A seven piece band, led by harpist and composer Carlos Rojas, they have been working for over
twenty years and have performed in Venezuela, Mexico, Guatemala, Sweden, France, Italy, England and the USA. These musicians are immersed in the sounds of los llanos; they seek to explore and experiment with their rich heritage whilst retaining the essence of the tradition.





Later saw at Club Mehran - from 11.30 PM Ek raat Ghulam Hussain ke Saath (Qawwalli); returned back and did not see  Midnight Global Grooves with MPS Pilot.

The Fantastic Performer NADRO Band


Rakitha Wickramaratne and band Naadro , later with Rajasthani Percussionists; 
Rakitha Wickramaratne with Naadro Percussion Band. Rakitha is the founder member of the newest six member drum ensemble of Sri Lanka known as 'NAADRO'. 'A Percussion Ensemble' ably supported by Gayan Manokumara, Nalinda Dilupama, Ranga Nuwantha, Pabalu Wijegunawadene , and Uthpala Iroshan, are all trained under the likes of well known names in the field of music such as Piyasara Shilpadhipathi, Dr Basil Mihiripanna and Ravi Bandu Vidyapathi and all the young musicians are students at the University of Colombo, learning the Performing Arts.


Ross Ainslie and Jarlath Henderson Band from Scotland.
Jarlath has been a three time All-Ireland Champion Uilleann Piper at only 19 years of age. In December 2003 he became the first Irish musician to win the prestigious BBC Young Folk Musician Of The Year. Ross hails from Perth and is a former member of the Grade 1 Vale Of Atholl pipe band. He has since toured with his tutor, the late Gordon Duncan, and was involved in Ivan Drever's band Clueless before more recently playing with Flook!, Dougie MacLean and Salsa Celtica. 

  Also saw - from 11.30 PM  Rustle with Scottish Band, Sri Lankan NADRO with Rajasthani Musicians and surprise guest artist.


30 October 2012. Early morning went to see Closing Dawn Concert 5.30 AM to 7.30 AM at Jaswant Thada (outside Mehrangarh Fort) singing of Sahaja Kabir, suno bhai sadho by Prahlad Tipaniya and Party.A memorable performance indeed.

31Oct Went to see Umaid Bhavan Palce,and  its small museam and then drove to Mandore Garden and returned by  Lunch. Mandore Garden can be skipped.It is badly maintained and not worth the effort to go there.

The Rajasthan International Folk Festival is an excellent event for all music lovers.
You can enjoy each and every performance. The performances by local artists are fantastic.
The international performers are exceptional in their field.
It is held on Full Moon of Oct each year.
